For a moment, it appeared that Wolfe City was going to defeat the Farmersville girls basketball team in runaway fashion on the Lady Farmers’ home court.
Farmersville was struggling to execute at the offensive end and Wolfe City outworked the Lady Farmers on the other end of the court to gain a seven-point advantage just over three minutes into Tuesday’s non-district game from Farmersville Arena.
All it took for Farmersville to settle in was by making a small defensive adjustment. Farmersville implemented a zone defense and it paid off in a big way for the Lady Farmers, who outscored the Lady Wolves 37-18 over the final 29 minutes of the game to rally for a 39-27 victory.
Sophomore Peighton Purser was the offensive catalyst for Farmersville, scoring a game-high 20 points before fouling out who 2:40 remaining in the ballgame. Senior Kylie McGee finished with seven points and anchored a strong effort near the goal for the Lady Farmers, who significantly out-rebounded the Lady Wolves.
