The Farmersville Farmers defended their home court with an impressive 71-56 victory over the Grand Saline Indians on Tuesday, Dec. 17. This performance showcased the Farmers’ dominance, driven by an impressive team effort and standout performances from their top scorers.

Senior guard Kauri Miller led the charge for the Farmers with 18 points, while fellow senior Braxtin Turney contributed 15 points, showcasing his versatility on both ends of the court. Sophomore Devin Swain Jr. added 13 points with several strong finishes in the paint, while junior Tay’shaun Davis chipped in 12 points, providing consistent energy throughout the game.

“I feel like we jumped on them real early in the game and got a good lead,” said Farmersville head coach Hayze McGuckie. “We fell off a bit after halftime, but overall, I feel like we did what we needed to do to finish the game strong.”

The game began with a strong offensive effort from the Farmers, leading 24-7 at the end of the first quarter, and finishing the first half with a big lead of 37-18. The Indians made a push in the third quarter, narrowing the deficit to just 10 points, but Farmersville’s composure and depth sealed the win in the final quarter.

Coach McGuckie praised the team effort shown tonight. “Overall, it was a great team win,” he said. “I’m really proud of how not just one player stood out tonight, it was multiple players who executed and performed well from the jump.”

Last Tuesday’s win comes four days after Farmersville finished in second place in the Fightin’ Farmers Boys Basketball Invitational. The Farmers finished with a 3-1 record with wins over Farmersville JV, Greenville JV and Bonham. Farmersville’s only loss came in the championship game vs. McKinney Christian Academy.

With this victory, Farmersville improves to 7-4 overall, competing in Class 4A, Region II, District 13. They will travel to face Pewitt High School in Omaha, TX, the day after Christmas. Their first district game will be Jan. 10 against Sunnyvale at home.

As the Farmers continue to build momentum, their balanced offense and teamwork set the stage for what could be a promising season.
