Celebrate Trails Day Saturday, April 26, at the Chaparral Trail Head. A group bike ride, open to all ages, is scheduled to leave the Onion Shed at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Community members are invited to hit the trail and celebrate the outdoors during the annual Celebrate Trails Day Saturday, April 26, at the Chaparral Trail Head behind the Onion Shed in downtown Farmersville.
Festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony, officially kicking off the day’s activities along the Chaparral Trail, part of the Northeast Texas Trail (NETT) network.
Organized locally by the Farmersville Parks and Recreation Board and supported by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, the event is part of a nationwide effort to highlight the benefits of America’s trails and encourage residents to experience the outdoors.
The event will feature a variety of nature-based activities including cycling, running, hiking and walking. A group bike ride, open to all ages, is scheduled to leave the Onion Shed at approximately 9:30 a.m. The ride will cover a round-trip distance of 10 miles on the trail. Helmets are required for participants, and the ride will be conducted at a relaxed, no-drop pace suitable for all skill levels.
Support along the trail will be provided by members of the Farmersville National Honor Society, who will staff a hospitality stop near the J.W. Spain Athletic Complex. Additional hospitality tents and activities will be hosted by Christian Cycling-Texas and Sugar Hill Adventures.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their bikes, hiking shoes, pets and friends to make the most of the day’s offerings. Organizers say Celebrate Trails Day is more than just a walk in the park—it’s a movement to support healthy lifestyles, community connectivity and trail preservation.
According to the Rails to Trails Conservancy, “Celebrate Trails Day is more than a day outside; it’s a day of action. The nation’s 42,000+ miles of multiuse trails on the ground nationwide lay the foundation for 150+ trail networks in development—giving us all plenty of places to get outside!”
The Chaparral Trail is part of the longest multi-use trail in Texas and spans multiple counties across Northeast Texas. Its ongoing development aims to promote outdoor recreation and boost local tourism.
