Rotarians hear from state representative

by | Jul 28, 2022 | Latest

State Rep. Jeff Leach has some getting acquainted ahead of him as he prepares for the start of the 2023 Texas Legislature.

House District 67, which the Plano Republican represents, now includes Farmersville. So, Leach took some time Tuesday to offer a greeting to the Farmersville Rotary Club and tell the Rotarians gathered what they might expect from the upcoming legislative session.

“Texas is the envy of the nation,” Leach said. “We don’t worry in this state how to keep people from leaving,” he said. “Instead, we have to plan for how we cope with the tremendous growth we’re experiencing.”

Leach referred to a California politician with whom he is acquainted, a Republican, who said “without question, the things that keep us up at night are trying to figure out” how to stop the migration from California to other places, such as Texas.

Leach, though, did say the state has problems that need the Legislature’s immediate attention. He ticked off “school security, border security and property tax relief” as three of the Legislature’s main concerns when it convenes in January.

The state’s border with Mexico, Leach said, presents the nation with a “terrible national security risk.” He criticized the Joe Biden administration in Washington for “refusing to visit the border. It is deplorable for them to not visit our 1,200-mile border. Texas is taking steps to do what the feds are refusing to do.”
