Virginia Ann Hunt

Our little mama, Virginia Ann Hunt, born March 16, 1926, finally gave up her last breath on December 17, 2015. Now, she will be reunited in Heaven with the loves of her life: our daddy, her mother, her daddy, her sister, Eula Hutson (Mamaw), Mama and Papa Porter, Brother Comer, and Billie. She was 89 years old.

She lived a very interesting life. Her parents were Pat Reinhold Stautzenberger and Annie Stella Chotenovsky. She had one sister, Dorothy May. Our mama, her mother, and her sister all played the accordions. While in high school in Waco, she and her sister sang and played their accordions on the radio and at special events. They were known as “The Sunshine Sisters.” She moved to Dallas where she fell in love with our daddy, Richard Thurmond Hunt, Jr. He owned dry goods stores named Hunt’s Dry Goods. Later on in his life, he had Hunt’s stores in Farmersville and Cooper, Texas. His specialty was the love of fabrics. They had two daughters, Charmaine and Cynthia, aka Birdie.

While in Dallas, our mama developed her God-given talent of singing. She sang in the Dallas Opera. Later on in life, she had a radio devotional broadcast program in Waco. Also, she sang on the radio for the Community Church led by Brother G.P. Comer and his wife, Billie. Her most requested song was “How Great Thou Art.” We can still hear Brother Comer saying, “Hit high C, Virginia!”

In her later years, she lived in the Assisted Living in West, Texas where she survived the horrific explosion of the fertilizer plant. That’s when an angel, named Marsha, transported her to Sunset Ministries in Clifton, Texas. She has lived there for the last 3.5 years. Wanda, her nurse angel, lavished much love and care to our mama. Analyn, another angel, took superb care of her: dressing her up like a little doll each day. We, her daughters, Charmaine and Cindy, enjoyed taking care of our mother in the last six years of her life, trying our best to make sure she was happy. We thank God for allowing us these special years with her. She was one beautiful lady who will be greatly missed. We will always love and adore her.

A special thanks goes to our husbands, Tommy Hutson and David White. We will always treasure their support and the fun of their being our chauffeurs to visit our mama. Also, our precious uncle, Dr. David C. Maddox, was such an inspiration to our mama. Being married to her sister, Dorothy, he made sure our little mama had the best of care. He brought smiles to her sweet face.

A private ceremony will be held in her honor on her 90th birthday, March 16, 2016. Her ashes will be buried at Thompson Cemetery next to our daddy and our grandmother. The Lord willing, our Uncle David will officiate her service. Our sweet friend, Andrea Lacy Perry, will play the piano and lead us in a “sing-along” of our mama’s most favorite songs. Virginia is survived by daughters, Charmaine and Cindy, and their children and grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Sunset Lutheran Ministries, 1800 W. 9th St., Clifton, TX, 76634.
